The Market Town of Builth Wells is just a mile down the road and is home to the Royal Welsh Showground. Builth Wells has a good selection of shops, Cafe’s, Pubs and places to eat including an Indian Restaurant, Chinese Takeaway and Fish & Chip Shop. The Elan Valley is a river valley situated to the west of Rhayader in Powys and is sometimes known as the “Welsh Lake District“. It covers 70 square miles of lake and countryside. The valley contains the Elan Valley Reservoirs and Elan Village, designed by architect Herbert Tudor Buckland as part of the same scheme. In a narrow sense, the name refers to the range of Old Red Sandstone peaks popular with walkers which lie to the south of Brecon. Sometimes referred to as “The Central Beacons” they include South Wales’ highest mountain, Pen y Fan. The range forms the central section of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
